The Coastal Stewards, a nonprofit organization that sponsors marine life conservation, hosts students from Carver Middle School for a beach clean-up in Ocean Ridge.
As part of the clean-up, the sixth, seventh and eighth graders learned about micro and macro plastics, how plastics on the beach impact our coastal and marine life, and how to better coastal stewards.
Dr. Harrison Albert, Education Coordinator for the Coastal Stewards, is conducting a yearlong study on the amount and types of litter and plastics found on the beach. The Coastal Stewards Youth Council is leading his work.
“Through initiatives like our beach clean-up and other eco-friendly activities, we aim to inspire individuals to take ownership of our planet’s well-being and work towards a sustainable future,” said Dr. Harrison Albert. “We invite everyone to join us in these efforts and make a positive impact on our environment.”
The Coastal Stewards, established in 2012 as Friends of Gumbo Limbo, is an independent non-profit organization that sponsors marine life conservation.
